Clarisonic Cleansers Reviews

Clarisonic’s popular line of cleansers and brushes has been covered by various media outlets proclaiming the products’ effectiveness. In fact, the author of a recent Huffington Post article was “shocked” by how clean her skin felt after using a Clarisonic cleanser and brush.

Clarisonic’s brushes are often the focus of media attention. However, the cleansers themselves are also quite popular. So I decided to look into Clarisonic’s line of cleansers to see if they are effective.

Clarisonic’s Cleanser Product Line

Clarisonic currently sells 4 different skin cleansers designed to clean and enhance skin health.

Acne Daily Clarifying Cleanser
Acne Daily Clarifying Cleanser is an acne-treating cleanser designed to clear and prevent acne growth. Two of its active ingredients are nelumbo nucifera flower and vitamin C.

Nelumbo nucifera flower extract is proven to relieve chronic inflammatory skin disease while facilitating the thickening of skin.[1]

While these clinical results are promising, it’s unclear what affect this ingredient has on average, healthy skin.

Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant. It is shown to treat and prevent ultraviolet (UV)-induced photodamage and lighten skin.[2][3]

In addition, scientific research reveals sodium l-ascorbyl-2-phosphate, a vitamin C derivative, effectively treats acne.[4]

User Reviews
According to a large majority of user reviews on Amazon.com, Acne Daily Clarifying Cleanser is a very effective product. The product currently has a score of 4.5/5 from 13 reviews.

AMarketier shares “My skin reacts to everything so I was a little hesitant to try this cleanser. I really like it and have had no problems!”

JLaBuffalony writes “Just ordered this a couple of weeks ago and I have noticed a couple of blemishes since then. But overall a good product. The only downside is it really dries out my skin.”

Directions

1. Apply directly to moistened skin or to a damp cleansing brush
2. Massage in a circular motion, avoiding the eye area
3. Rinse thoroughly

Pricing
One 6.0 fluid ounce bottle sells for around $24 to $30 online at Amazon.com and Nordstrom.com.

Gentle Hydro Cleanser
This non-foaming, cucumber-scented cleanser provides a hydrogel that removes impurities and soothes skin. It contains sucrose cocoate, a patented blend of sucrose and coconut derivatives, which cleanse skin.[5]

Gentle Hydro Cleanser also contains vitamin E, the major lipid soluble antioxidant in skin.[6] Clinical research shows topical application of vitamin E reduces UV-induced damage and protects skin from future damage.[7]

User Reviews
Gentle Hydro Cleanser currently has a high score of 4.5/5 stars from 54 user reviews on Amazon.com.

G.Dixon claims “This cleanser does a thorough yet gently job. It calms my skin if it is irritated. It has a soft cucumber scent that I find refreshing.”

Jeannie Cole gives the product 3 stars, stating “This is a nice product but I have sensitive skin and it made me break out.”

Directions

1. Apply directly to moistened skin or to a damp Clarisonic Skin Cleansing Brush
2. Massage gently in a circular motion
3. Rinse off

Pricing
One bottle of Clarisonic’s Gentle Hydro Cleanser (6.0 fl oz.) sells for approximately $20 to $26 online.

Refreshing Gel Cleanser
This cleanser is formulated for sonic cleansing and intended for clogged skin and pores. Refreshing Gel Cleanser uses actinidia chinensis fruit and panthenol.

Actinidia chinensis, better known as kiwi fruit, contains high levels of vitamin C and E, which treat skin damage and enhance skin health. As an added benefit, research shows topical kiwi fruit application significantly speeds skin repair by up to 300%.[8]

Refreshing Gel Cleanser also contains panthenol, a vitamin B5 form.[9] A 2011 scientific trial shows daily topical use of formulas containing 1% or 5% panthenol hydrates and hydrate and protect skin.[10]

User Reviews
Refreshing Gel Cleanser has a 4.5/5 star rating from 33 user reviews on Amazon.com.

LittleEW writes “Nice fresh scent. Perfect on all skin types. Love all their [Clarisonic] products; they are gently yet very effective.”

M.Papke admits “It is not bad, probably would give it 5 stars but the price is a little high for it I think.”

Directions

1. Apply directly to moistened skin
2. In a circular motion, massage until absorbed
3. Rinse off applied area

Pricing
Refreshing Gel Cleanser usually sells for around $25 for one 6-oz. bottle.

Deep Pore Daily Cleanser
Clarisonic’s Deep Pore Daily Cleanser is said to reduce the appearance of pores while it cleans skin.

One of the cleanser’s active ingredients is Japanese green tea which contains polyphenol proven to inhibit UV-induced cell damage in human fibroblasts, cells that synthetize collagen.[11] Collagen growth should improve pore appearance.

Clinical research also shows Japanese green tea protects cells and tissues against cancer cell development.[12]

Sodium cocoyl isethionate is a surfactant found in many mild cleansing products.[13]

Recent scientific research shows sodium cocoyl isethionate facilitates skin penetration and enhances skin barrier health.[13]

User Reviews
User reviews on Clarisonic’s website gives Deep Pore Daily Cleanser a 4/5 star score.

Review1 states this product “doesn’t have the most appealing smell. I think it’s very weird . . . I also think the texture of the cleanser is bizarre. It tends to sort of crumble into funny little white pieces in spots on my face.”

Review2 shares “It didn’t really help my oily skin, but it did a good cleansing job, so give it a try.”

Directions
Deep Pore Daily Cleanser’s recommended use follows the same instructions for other Clarisonic cleansers; apply to and massage into moistened skin.

Pricing
One 6-oz. bottle of Deep Pore Daily Cleanser usually sells for $27.00 online.

Final Thoughts on Clarisonic’s Cleanser Line

Clarisonic’s cleanser line is impressive. Each cleanser provides effective ingredients for cleansing and improving skin health.

For most of the products, user reviews have been very good.

I feel Clarisonic’s cleansers may be some of the best skin cleansers available.
